Healthcare

healthcare46 million Americans have no health insurance. Of the rest that do have what passes for coverage, the policies are over priced, claims are denied, and people are dieing while the insurance companies are making record profits.

A solution has been put on the table of the American people.

The usual American way of ingenuity, inventiveness, and hard work that would insurance companies scrambling to offer better coverage at an affordable price has been replaced by sleazy tactics and spreading lies.

Rather than offering an affordable alternative, we're hearing from screaming whack jobs that Obama wants to kill old people, we're all going to die in hospitals, and that 7% of people happy with the status quo translates into overwhelming support for the current health care system.

For facts on this see this web site and if you still don't think you're getting the truth about the bill, read a book.

Buy Our Crap or get Fined
    Penalties For No Insurance
The health insurance industry doesn't want Congress to let you off easy if you decide to ignore a proposed requirement that all Americans must have coverage.

Determined to get as many people as possible covered, lawmakers first proposed fines of as much as $3,800 per family for health insurance scofflaws. But they have been steadily scaling back the penalties, with the Senate Finance Committee last week dropping them to $1,500 maximum per family in their version of a health care bill. The commi

    Don’t Blame Flu Shots

vaccinepaper190As soon as swine flu vaccinations start next month, some people getting them will drop dead of heart attacks or strokes, some children will have seizures and some pregnant women will miscarry.

But those events will not necessarily have anything to do with the vaccine. That poses a public relations challenge for federal officials, who remember how sensational reports of deaths and illnesses derailed the large-scale flu vaccine drive of 1976.

    TOP INSURERS SPEND HEAVILY
Fourteen major health insurers and their industry association flexed their political muscle to the tune of $2.5 million per month – an increase of 25 percent over previous years – in the first half of 2009 to influence the health care reform debate, according to a report released today by the nonpartisan group Public Campaign Action Fund.

“These highly profitable corporations are spending millions every month to protect their bottom line by fighting health care reform in Washington, D.C.,

    Dems Ease Impact
baucus_health_care_ap_0916Capping months of struggle, Democrats pushed health care legislation atop President Barack Obama's agenda to the brink of a major Senate advance early Friday after last-minute changes to ease the impact on working-class families. The most far-reaching overhaul in decades aims to protect millions who have unreliable insurance coverage or none at all.

    The Lie Machine
lie_machineConservatives were quick to insist that the near-riot — the first of many town-hall mobs that would dominate the headlines in August — was completely spontaneous. The protesters didn't show up "because of some organized group," Rick Scott, the head of Conservatives for Patients' Rights, told reporters. "They're mad about the stimulus bill, the bailout, the economy. Now they see that their health care is about to be taken over by the government."

    The End of my Rope
8432_145677375492_7292655492_3183052_3363371_nI have a brain tumor. Doctors are ready to help me. But CIGNA has been blocking me from getting testing and treatment for two years, while almost doubling my premiums.

Then, this week was the kicker. CIGNA's pharmacy called to say that the co-pay on the medicine that helps control my debilitating head pain is skyrocketing from $10 to $1,115. That's not a typo. They're making me pay one hundred times what I'm paying now, in addition to my $753/month premium.

Baucus plan "absolute gift" to industry

Wendell Potter, the former Cigna executive-turned-whistleblower, told a small group of reporters Monday that the Baucus health care plan is an “absolute gift” to the industry.

“The Baucus framework is just an absolute joke,” said Potter, Cigna’s former head of corporate communications who has been speaking out against insurance industry practices. “It is an absolute gift to the industry. And if that is what we see in the legislation, (America’s Health Insurance Plans chief) Karen ...

Potter, who was previously a vice president of communication at Cigna, also sharply criticized Democratic Senator Max Baucus' health care reform bill in a conversation with reporters Monday, calling the plan an "absolute gift to the industry."

Potter said the proposal would not provide affordable coverage. It gives the industry too much latitude to charge higher premiums based on age and geographic location, fails to mandate employer coverage, and pushes consumers into plans with limited be

    Iffy Math on Deficit Pledge
capt.4f29ec13b1d14c889f400851f83cb01b.obama_health_care_cap121President Barack Obama used only-in-Washington accounting Wednesday when he promised to overhaul the nation's health care system without adding "one dime" to the deficit. By conventional arithmetic, Democratic plans would drive up the deficit by billions of dollars.

The president's speech to Congress contained a variety of oversimplifications and omissions in laying out what he wants to do about health insurance.

It was a sentence that many Americans had been waiting for — quite the opposite of much that has preceded it in this raucous debate — and he proceeded to lay out the elements of health-care reform that he considers essential. He did this clearly, concisely, using language that was mostly jargon-free — a triumph of speech...

The judgment is harsh in a new poll that finds Americans worried about the government taking over health insurance, cutting off treatment to the elderly and giving coverage to illegal immigrants. Harsh, but not based on facts.

A new NBC News poll suggests some of the myths and partial truths about the plans under consideration are taking hold.

No. Do the bills propose cutting Medicare benefit levels? No on that one...

    The Morality
    It's a Moral Issue

NA-AZ803_MESSAG_D_20090818173921The White House may have to go for the morality of health insurance in order to convince the wing nuts that it's a good idea.

The rethinking comes amid a struggle by the White House to clarify its view on a public insurance plan, which liberals see as a critical part of a health overhaul. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Sunday that a public plan isn't the "essential element" of a health bill, prompting sharp words from liberal groups.

But in talking to doctors, nurses, hospital groups and patient advocacy groups, six areas totaling nearly $500 billion stood out as issues to be dealt with in the health care reform debate.
