It seems to surprise most news monkeys that 44% of people in this country think that Jon Stewart is the most trusted newscaster in the country. Here's the link to the Google results to not taint the pool with “partisan” gloating by liberals at Huffington post like Nancy Snow or Jason Linkins. How is this a surprise when we have the likes of Hannity, Beck, and any other of the biased asswipes on Faux News? Even the nightly local shit is riddled with sensationalist conjecture and more stories about Brittney's twat shot, cheating politicos from the “other side” and the occasional Pig Flu outbreak that killed less people this year than the real flu kills every year. Look, Stewart covers the news people care about. Like where the fuck our money is going. What banks are hosing use. Why twits like Kramer are in the banks pocket when they're supposed to be informing us. Us! Who the news is designed to inform. Not some propagandized script that designed to keep us all medicated and happy. Even now with the economy tanking and unemployment near 20% you'd think the country was on the upswing with how it's being read ... uhm, reported. If you doubt that Stewart is legit watch him on Moyer watch him with Peter Jennings (who took the number two slot in the poll) Shit just watch the Daily Show and learn something. Watch who comes on his show and watch how an interview should be conducted. Jon Stewart made me start paying attention to what's happening and I attribute him to constant feeling of nausea I have because I started to pay attention.

Same page... I'm on the same page with you here man. I couldn't take the bullshit from FoxNews trying to turn every story their way and MSNBC turning it their way...I think Stewart just tells it like it is and tries to show the...well, the shitheadery in the daily bullshit the actual news channels through at us. He comes at you from the point of...."I don't think your f**king retarded", these news channels seem to think that we have no brains or opinions and what is sad is that most people believe 100% of what they report. I always like flipping back and forth between FoxNews and MSNBC, sometimes you can catch the same story and it's amazing how much of a spin each put on it.... |

I am the choir you are preaching to. It appears that satire is the only form of legitimate topical insight left. When you have coffee houses sponsoring TV punditry passing off advertorials as meaningful news analysis and obitutainment as the default lead story, all you have left is to laugh. Or go crazy. Which might just explain Glenn Beck. And as journalism morphs into anal smoke blowing exercises or reactionary hysteria depending on the dominant ruling class, it will be the court jesters who manage to preserve the fifth estate's duty of speaking truth to power as they have throughout history. The intellectually lazy watch slackjawed as cowards preen in their sanitized prime time television slots throwing shadow punches at the power structure, daring not to risk their access which is the only asset they have left to rationalise their own existence. The days of news being an outside lens peering into murky corners of deceit are long gone. Today, newsmaking and powerbroking are intrinsically linked and often one in the same (I'm looking at you Washington Post). Jon Stewart's mix of exasperation, disgust, amazement and hopefulness perfectly captures the mood of most meaningful contemporary sentient political thought. After all it's either him or Glenn *SHUDDER* Beck. |
