The Beginning

Necessity is the mother of invention. And this mother was born out of necessity.
I was born before civilization ended. I’m not sure exactly when it ended. I either wasn’t paying close enough attention at the time or I didn’t expect it, and therefore had no idea what to look for. I just know that something changed and the world became a different more difficult place. People have lost their minds, and with it their sense of decency, common courtesy, and to a great extent reason.
There was a time, not too long ago, when acting with civility, integrity, honesty, and decency was common and expected. When being regarded as fecal matter at the store, work, on the phone, and by anyone who happens to look your way was an indication that they might be a sociopath, or at the very least considered by some to have issues that could be easily addressed with electrically charged paddles and clamps, or some nice quiet jail time.
Companies, while still wanting to make a buck, cared that you bought their product and that you liked it enough to buy more or tell someone else; athletes didn’t blow wads of cash on hookers and drugs—well, not all of them, and were thankful for the ability to use their natural talents; government officials guided the country with integrity, a sense of the future and the greater good, and comparatively, had excellent memories; people said hello, thank you, please, and held the elevator; if you let someone into traffic the drivers behind you didn’t honk and give you the finger—neither did the person you let in; the nightly news reported the news, and tabloids told us which millionaire was going to jail, beating their spouse and kids, drinking too much, getting fat, or getting divorced; neighbors spoke to each other and the sun shined every day okay, that’s a bit much…
I’m not reminiscing about the “good old days” or the “back in the day” days. I haven’t retired to a trailer park somewhere, collecting a check that amounts to a tiny percentage of what was actually sucked into the social security black hole or bogus 401k. I still roam among it.
What I’m referring to is an attitude that has permeated our society to such a degree that it’s gone from sickening and disturbing to disturbingly laughable. There is, more than ever a preponderance of blatant and purposeful disregard for common sense and values. Decency, reason, social convention, and integrity are not expected behaviors and are in fact considered character defects. There seems to be an underlying sense of entitlement in the average moron that makes them forget that they too, are in fact, part of the human race. But since they have the latest disease, syndrome, disorder, or are part of the latest oppressed group they deserve special rights, privileges and consideration. Or they’ve kissed enough ass, sold their souls, or left enough destroyed lives in their wake to figure they deserve it. Hell, their entitled.
Bullshit doesn’t even begin to describe the phenomenon. Bullshit has some integrity. Idiocy, arrogance, ignorance, stupidity, and insanity are a good start, but the only way to truly define it is shitheadery. Pronounced properly it rolls off the tongue, enabling a sense of peace, understanding, and solace.
This thought, frustration, and astonishment spawned a blog, forum, and web site.
They are a tribute to the almost daily occurances of shitheadery. There is, in my opinion, more, now than ever, a lack of social and spiritual values in society. Attitudes have changed and individuals in society have become little more than self serving, self absorbed nit-wits.
Blatant acts of shitheadery are overwhelming and this seems a fitting forum to discuss them, rant about them, and point them out.
The intention is not to change the world, but laughing about it and commiserating may help alleviate some of the nausea, high blood pressure, and signs of early heart attacks that shitheadery could cause. Maybe a discussion will raise awareness, and in a perfect world people will start to pay more attention to what goes on and how they affect the small corner of the world they call home, but it’s doubtful, at least in this lifetime.
