The Truth in The Truth Squad
Filed Under Political Shitheadery | Leave a Comment
I had an interesting comment from Alan, a friend and colleague in a previous post. The comment brings up an interesting point.
A nit-pick:
Ms. Swift is not the “former Mass. Governor”. She is the former acting Governor. Implying that she was chosen by the citizens of MA raises her stature much more than she deserves.
Are we going to get the truth from The Truth Squad, or the convenient parts of the truth? In yesterday’s press release Jane Swift is listed as “Former Governor Jane Swift.” She was in fact Acting Governor, meaning never voted into office, but assigned. This may sound, as the comment says, like a nit-pick, but isn’t that what the truth is? The truth. All of it! Not just a little bit. Not part of it. The whole friggin’ truth.
Did no one in McCain’s camp bother to check the facts? Did Swift forget that she wasn’t voted into office? I’m not implying she’s incapable of being Head Goon on The Truth Squad. I’m sure she’s perfectly capable of it - what ever that might mean. But if you’re in charge of a group whose primary objective and purpose is to tell the truth, you of all people should get your facts straight. In addition, you, and your flock, should be prepared to be the subject to rigorous scrutiny.

The Truth Squad Goons

Not to be out done by the “change” mantra, McCain’s people jumped on that one. If we just say it, they’ll believe it, was probably the thought.
The Obama folks, knowing how the other side plays, preemptively put up a “Fight the Smears” web site in time to thwart the inevitable attacks and lies that where soon to come. In the same vain as getting help to New Orleans, showing up at ground zero, and the like, a couple weeks after Palin started to be examined the McCain camp has formed their own group. Headed by former Mass. Governor Jane Swift, they’ve formed a little group. A group up of women. Lots of women. You thought M.A.D.D. was pissed off? You should see this list, deemed the “Estrogen Brigade,” by self proclaimed political whore, Wayne Garcia of Creative Loafing.

What Change?

“The Straight Talk Express” was a cool name for a campaign. It was even a cool name for a bus. That’s when McCain had something to say and when what he said sounded as though he meant it. The McCain campaign has taken on Obama’s “change” mantra. Who doesn’t want change, after all? Maybe if everyone says it enough it’ll happen. If we close our eyes, click our heels, and think real hard maybe it’ll happen. Maybe we’ll actually believe that voting for a party that has consistently lied to us, deceived us, swindled us, and treated us like serfs will bring about change. Do we have enough faith in human nature to believe that we’ll see change from and administration that has done what it has for eight years?
