I have republican friends. In fact I have a republican father. I got into an argument yesterday with one of them.

The Republican: A poll is not a fact as the word fact is understood.  A poll is a snapshot of the views at a particular time of a small sample of potential voters by a given pollster.
To say that a particular poll gave a particular result at a particular time is an example of a true statement. However, it shouldn’t be rewarded with the term “fact”. The Sun rises in the East. That’s a fact.

This type of reaction usually happens when you tell them that Obama is ahead. Had McCain been ahead. They’d be sucking down martinis and raising the American flag. Maybe even beheading some liberal neighbors.

The polls after the debate show Obama in a pretty good lead:

Gallup Daily Tracking Poll
Obama (D) 49%, McCain (R) 44%

Hotline/Diageo
Obama (D) 48%, McCain (R) 43%

Research 2000 / Kos
Obama (D) 49%, McCain (R) 43%

Rasmussen
Obama (D) 50%, McCain (R) 44%

And while xbox may have an odd demographic, Microsoft did a poll too. They polled 100,000 people, more than Gallup, NBC, and CNN polls combined, has Obama in a 12% lead.

I can’t count FOX as a reputable news organization when they post messages on the screen that says “Obama/Bidden – Osama Bin Laden – Coincidence?” and hide behind freedom of the press. That’s an insult to viewers and to reporters.

So would it be OK to say that, It’s a fact that Obama’s ahead in the polls? All of them!

To answer,he’s ahead in the polls,” with, “the polls don’t matter,” is one of the lamest retorts imaginable. In fact, it shows no imagination. At least say, “Oh, yeah, he rapes babies.”
